Waypoints: Rooster Rock

In late 2024 the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department suggested deleting the physical boundary description for Rooster Rock’s clothing‑optional beach from its administrative rule, opting instead to rely on signage and online maps. The agency said the move would simplify the rule and would not alter the beach itself. Naturists warned that removing landmark references could make future boundary changes easier and less subject to public scrutiny, recalling that the area’s clothing‑optional status had already been reduced once in 1992. The monolith Rooster Rock sits at the park’s western edge, while the nude beach lies to the east.

Why it matters

It matters because any weakening of official boundary definitions could jeopardize continued access to the nude beach, affecting the health, wellbeing and rights of adult naturist visitors.
